nietzsche

Thus Spoke Zarathustra
I teach you the overman. Man is something that shall be overcome. What have you done to overcome him?... All beings so far have created something beyond themselves; and do you want to be the ebb of this great flood, and even go back to the beasts rather than overcome man? What is ape to man? A laughing stock or painful embarrassment. And man shall be that to overman: a laughingstock or painful embarrassment. You have made your way from worm to man, and much in you is still worm. Once you were apes, and even now, too, man is more ape than any ape... The overman is the meaning of the earth. Let your will say: the overman shall be the meaning of the earth... Man is a rope, tied between beast and overman—a rope over an abyss ... what is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end. Friedrich Nietzche
Germany has been known for its great philosophers-Goethe,Kant,Marx,Schopenhauer and many others and its musicians-Beethoven,Wagner,Mozart, Handel and Bach. Both have played an important role in shaping modern Germany. But it was Nietzche who changed the course of history by his writings. Nietzche, I believe has been misunderstood in the West. The misapplication of his writings by Treitschke and others for the evil Nazi cause would have appalled the philosopher.
Neitzsche's message was simple-Man must exceed himself and become a superman! a message which is a recurrent theme in the ancient Indian and Greek writings. According to Nietzsche, Man is potentially divine but has forgotten his divinity and is hence unable to transcend his animal instincts. He was always against the herd mentality and stood for assertion of individuality!
His writings are a call to strength, purity, vitality and truth!

Ek Din Bik Jayega, Maati Ke Mol
Jag Mein Reh Jayenge Pyare Tere Bol
Dooje Ke Hothon Ko Dekar Apne Geet
Koi Nishani Chhod, Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...
Anhoni Path Mein Kaante Lakh Bichaaye
Honi To Phir Bhi Bichhda Yaar Milaye
Yeh Birha, Yeh Doori
Do Pal Ki Majboori
Phir Koi Dilwala Kahe Ko Ghabraye
Taram Pam...
Dhara Jo Behti Hai Milke Rehti Hai
Behti Chara Ban Ja Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...
Parde Ke Peechhe Baithi Saanval Gori
Thaam Ke Tere Mere Man Ki Dori
Yeh Dori Na Chhoote, Yeh Bandhan Na Toote
Bhor Hone Wali Hai Ab Raina Hai Thodi

Sar Ko Jhukaye Tu Baitha Kya Hai Yaar
Gori Se Naina Jod Phir Duniya Se Dol
Ek Din...

Chhodo kal ki baatein, kal ki baat puraani
Naye daur mein likhenge milkar nayi kahaani
Hum hindustani, hum hindustani - 2
Aaj puraani zanjeeron ko tod chuke hain
Kya dekhe us manzil ko jo chhod chuke hain
Chaand ke dar pe jaa pahuncha hai aaj zamaana
Naye jagat se hum bhi naata jod chuke hain
Naya khoon hai, nayi umangein, ab hai nayi jawaani
Hum hindustani
Chhodo kal ki baatein, kal ki baat puraani
Naye daur mein likhenge milkar nayi kahaani
Hum hindustani, hum hindustani
Aao mehnat ko apna imaan banaaye
Apne haathon ko apna bhagwaan banaaye
Ram ki is dharti ko gautam ki bhoomi ko
Sapnon se bhi pyaara hindustan banaaye
Naya khoon hai, nayi umangein, ab hai nayi jawaani
Hum hindustani
Chhodo kal ki baatein, kal ki baat puraani
Naye daur mein likhenge milkar nayi kahaani
Hum hindustani, hum hindustani
Har zarra hai moti, aankh uthaakar dekho
Maati mein sona hai, haath badhaakar dekho
Sone ki yeh ganga hai, chaandi ki yamuna
Chaaho to patthar pe dhaan ugaakar dekho
Naya khoon hai, nayi umangein, ab hai nayi jawaani

29th March 1914-the meeting

It was about 3:30 pm in the afternoon of the 29th that Mirra Richard made her way to Sri Aurobindo’s residence at 37, Rue Francois Martin[3]. As she began climbing the staircase, he emerged from the room and quietly stood at the top of the stairs. The meeting had a profound effect on her. The next day, she wrote in her diary: “It matters little that there are thousands of beings plunged in the densest ignorance, He whom we saw yesterday is on earth; his presence is enough to prove that a day will come when darkness shall be transformed into light, and Thy reign shall be indeed established upon earth.[

These bodies summed the drift of numberless births,
And the spirit to the spirit was the same.
Amazed by a joy for which they had waited long,
The lovers met upon their different paths,
Travellers across the limitless plains of Time
Together drawn from fate-led journeyings
In the self-closed solitude of their human past,
To a swift rapturous dream of future joy
And the unexpected present of these eyes.
By the revealing greatness of a look,
Form-smitten the spirit's memory woke in sense.
The mist was torn that lay between two lives;
Her heart unveiled and his to find her turned;
Attracted as in heaven star by star,
They wondered at each other and rejoiced
And wove affinity in a silent gaze.
A moment passed that was eternity's ray,
An hour began, the matrix of new time!
Savitri. Sri Aurobindo

facebook

Hats off to Mark Zukerberg for inventing the Facebook! It was an idea waiting to happen. If anything is changing the world,it is facebook! The place is crazy-ideas,arts,science,spirituality,internationalism,human unity, jokes, whatever it is there. Half an hour everyday and you are ready to face the world. I wish someone collects the data but the amount of business happening due to fb is mind boggling!
People are becoming friendlier, courteous, tolerant, kind and charitable after fb.
Of course everything has a flip side and fb is no exception!
Good luck to fb!

good friday

"Forgive them O Lord for they know not what they doeth" spake Jesus from the cross. This sums up the message of the Bible- which the world has forgotten as it engulfs itself in an orgy of murder, rape, massacre and brutality unprecedented in human history!
The message of the Bible is universal-compassion,love,brotherhood,forgiveness,mercy,charity and peace! But man has twisted that message to suit his own mundane purpose. Today maximum people are killed in the name of God!
'It is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a camel than for a rich man to enter the gates of heaven'. This simple truth has been forgotten as everyone is in a race to acquire more wealth. The poor are envious of the rich and seek to emulate them which is putting a tremendous burden on the Earth's limited resources. Sharing, goodwill and cooperation have vanished from the World's lexicon.
" Jesus was aware of the failure of his mission and of his return with the sword of God!" Sri Aurobindo

a united front

' The greatness of a country depends not upon the victory of one party but on the union of all parties.'The Mother

The need of the hour is a united front against the gigantic problems facing India-poverty,unemployment,price rise, hunger, disease, illiteracy, relations with Pakistan, communalism, corruption, environmental degradation and goonda raj. No single party or group of parties is in a position to tackle the enormous challenges facing the nation.
Our Constitutional spirit is that of a consensual approach to all problems. The grim reality is that India can emerge out of the present impasse only if all the political parties can set aside their differences and unitedly work on the basis of secularism, women's empowerment, law and order, poverty alleviation and a federal polity.
The main hindrance,as I see it,is the dynastic mind-set existing in certain parties. I can assure you that no messiah or avatar can save India without the participation of all sections of the society. The alternative is chaos and inevitable disintegration and perhaps foreign occupation.
Let the political parties do themselves proud!

a brief history of time

'Time' has fascinated the human psyche since the beginning of time! The ancient Indian Rishis and the Greek philosophers have dealt elaborately about the relativity and mutability of time. The Vedas and Upanishads have categorically asserted that 'Time' is a figment of imagination and a creation of the human mind to suit its practical needs. According to the ancient scriptures the reality cannot be grasped by the human mind but only by intuition and spiritual experience!
Einstein, the greatest scientist known also arrived at the same conclusions by scientific means. In his 'Theory of relativity' he has stated that time and space are relative and depend on the position of the observer.
Sr Aurobindo, an Indian mystic, who was educated in England also has observed while developing his 'Integral Yoga' that 'Time' cannot be grasped without transcending the mind.
Both the Eastern mystics and the Western scientists have arrived at the same conclusions by objective and subjective means. This has tremendous implications for future developments in Science and Spirituality. It is obvious that the future lies in a fusion of the two streams!

sant tukaram

Tukaram was a mystic poet who lived in the 17th century in Maharashtra. He belonged to the Bhagwat sampraday and was a devptee of Krishna. He composed and sang hymns praising Krishna.
He was strongly opposed by the Brahmins who feared a threat to their authority since Tukaram preached the gospel of love, equality, brotherhood and harmony! The Brahmins conspired and directed Tukaram to throw his hymns in the river and never to sing them. Tukaram did as he was told and prayed to Krishna to save his hymns. Legend has it that Krishna appeared from the river with the hymns!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4NZ3vGrAnIShivaji maharaj was so impressed with Tukaram that he requested Tukaram to accept him as his disciple and offered him and his family wealth and prestige. Tukaram returned the costly gifts and advised Shivaji to perform 'Rajdharm'-service of the people.
Tukaram's abhangs(songs) are still popular in Maharshtra and people in rural areas have installed his murti(statue) along with Dnyaneshwar also a fellow mystic.

kusum mahadev bhagwat

Kusum kaki was an extremely loving and kind hear ted person! She was extremely fond of people and loved having guests. She was a very good cook and could cook all types of dishes. She was a very religious person and observed all the rituals and customs of the Hindu religion. She enjoyed arranging matches and was instrumental in finding suitable matches for my sisters-Maya and Shubha who are happily married now.
Though delicate in health, she was extremely hard working. She was a talented actor and could imitate anyone. Her father, sisters and brothers were very fond of her and would stay with her very frequently. Kaka and kaki also travel-led to the US at the invitation of her brother.
All her grand children would come to stay with her in the vacations and kaka would get mangoes and sweets for them.
Kusum kaki passed away peacefully in Pune.

holi-festival of colours

Holi is celebrated all over India with pomp and gaiety! According to Indian mythology, Hiranyakashyapu, an Asura, wanted to kill his own son Prahlad because he was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, his arch -enemy. After several failed attempts he asked Prahlad to sit in his sister Holika's lap who had a boon from Brahma that she could not be burnt. Prahlad survived but Holika was burnt alive.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf92MOkrbEwIn Uttar Pradesh Holi is associated with Krishna's revelleries with the Gopi's. On this day people greet each other with colours and celebrate with intoxicants-bhang. It also marks the beginning of the harvest season and end of winter.

a knowledge based society

The 21st century will be the century of knowledge and research! The country which can quickly upgrade its institutions and make them knowledge intensive will lead the world. Capital and labor will soon take a secondary position to know-how. Innovation, creativity, enterprise, cooperation and exchange will be the buzz-words of the present century. Individuals and organisations who can re-invent themselves will reap the harvest.
Education is on the cusp of a revolution! The internet is enabling millions of people to upgrade their skills without payment or joining any institute. The class-room is increasingly becoming irrelevant  It is possible for a student to choose his mentor depending on his interest. The notions of language, qualification, age and location are changing and new paradigms are emerging.
In my opinion,the sun-rise industries will be food-processing,renewable energy,tourism,traditional medicine,yoga,education,entertainment and bio-technology.
India is well poised to lead the world since all these areas are human intensive and we have the largest number of youth. Its USP is its unique cultural heritage! The barriers are- caste, traditions, hierarchy, chauvinism and a dynastic culture.
Let the 21st century be the Indian century!

urdu

Urdu is a language which is widely spoken in the Indian sub-continent,Saudi Arabia,UK & US. It originated in India during the Mughal period and was the official language for a long time. It comprises words from Hindi,Persian, Awadhi and Khadi boli. It is symbolic of our composite culture. It is written like Persian, from right to left.
The important feature of Urdu is tehzeeb and adab meaning courtesy. Some of the best Indian poetry is in Urdu. Ghalib,Mir,Zafar,Premchand,Manto,Kaifi,Chugtai and Bedi wrote in Urdu. A famous English poet has said that if Ghalib had written in English, he would have been a greater writer than Shakespeare!
Today Urdu is loosing its purity and is becoming a hodge-podge of Hindi,English and other regional languages. I believe children should be encouraged to learn Urdu and express themselves in Urdu. This is Ghalib's famous couplet in which he compares himself to his great predecessor, the master poet Mir:[47]

ریختے کے تمہی استاد نہیں ہو غالب
کہتے ہیں پہلے زمانے میں کوئی میر بھی تھا
[edit]Transliteration
Rekhte ke tumhiⁿustād nahīⁿ ho Ghālib
Kahte haiⁿ pehle zamāne meⁿ ko'ī Mīr bhī thā
[edit]Translation
You are not the only master of Rekhta*, Ghalib
They say that in the past there also was someone named Mir.
  • Rekhta was the name for the Urdu/Hindi language in Ghalib's days, when the distinction had not yet been made.

Earth hour

PARIS: From Sydney Harbour Bridge, Buckingham Palace and the Brandenburg Gate to the Burj Khalifa tower, the Empire State Building, the Taj Mahal and Table Mountain, some of the world’s greatest landmarks will briefly darken on Saturday night for Earth Hour, a campaign now becoming a broader vehicle for green activism.
Earth Hour originated in Sydney in 2007 with an appeal to people and businesses to turn off their lights for an hour to heighten awareness about climate change, driven by carbon-emitting fossil fuels.
The annual switch-off is now being followed in locations in three-quarters of the world’s nations and has the potential to touch hundreds of millions of lives, say its organisers.
Promoted through social media, Earth Hour has also mutated in some countries into a potent tool to lobby on local issues unconnected with global warming, they add.
Switch-off events this Saturday at the local time of 8:30 pm are planned in more than 150 countries, including for the first time the Palestinian territories, Tunisia, Galapagos, Suriname, French Guiana, St. Helena and Rwanda.
Newcomers to the campaign include Copenhagen’s Little Mermaid, the Statue of David in Florence and Cape Town’s Table Mountain, which in 2011 joined a list of the “New Seven Wonders of Nature”.
“Last year, Earth Hour was followed in 7,000 communities, an increase of about 30 per cent over 2011,” said Andy Ridley, co-founder of the project launched by WWF.
“The biggest area of growth has been the Asia-Pacific, the economic engine of the planet, where wherever you go now, people are living with the problems of environmental damage,” Ridley said in a phone interview from Singapore.
“If you’re in a big city in China, you may well be going to work wearing a face mask (against air pollution), or if you are in the Philippines, you and your family may well have been affected by a super-typhoon.”
Ridley added, “What we are finding is that environment issues may be perceived differently in the big cities of Asia compared with how they are perceived in Europe or the States. They may not be perceived as exclusively green issues. They are seen as issues that are damaging your lifestyle and potentially threatening your family.”
In Japan, where floodlights will be turned off on Saturday at the capital’s signature Tokyo Tower, campaigners are intertwining Earth Hour with remembrance of the March 2011 mega-quake and tsunami, which unleashed a nuclear disaster at Fukushima.
In Russia, activists last year harnessed the success of Earth Hour to secure 100,000 signatures for a petition for a law to protect sea areas around oil exploration sites, says WWF.
Uganda created the first “Earth Hour forest” of 2,700 hectares (10.4 square miles) of cleared land, which they plan to fill with half a million trees.
Campaigners in Argentina are hoping that this year’s event will provide traction to protect a 3.4-million-hectare (13,100-square mile) marine zone.
As it grows in visibility, Earth Hour is also becoming a target, with critics saying it is little more than token, encourages smugness about combating climate change and ignores the needs of development.
“India observes on average eight Earth hours a day,” tweeted VictorTango@airkatana, a reference to the country’s notorious power outages. More than 400 million Indians still lack access to mains electricity, according to the World Bank.
Ridley said no figures existed for the overall amount of energy saved by Earth Hour. But the brief switch-off, he argued, encouraged many people to do more to curb waste and think of the environment.
Leading French climate scientist Jean Jouzel said Earth Hour at least reminded people of the crisis posed by carbon emissions, which each year scale new peaks while UN talks about curbing them mark time.
“Does Earth Hour encourage self-satisfaction? Are its results limited? I would say ‘yes’ to both,” Jouzel said.
“But if it’s a toss-up between doing nothing and doing something that is not perfect but is still something very visible, I think the answer is: do something. In fact, we need more action of this kind.”

save marine life

Almost 100 million sharks are killed every year! shocking but true. Many species of fish and aquatic plants are threatened with extinction. Oceans, seas, rivers and waterfalls are getting polluted due dumping of toxic wastes, oil spills and underwater nuclear explosions. Rogue corporations like Dow Chemicals,Mobil and BP are responsible for extermination of marine life on a horrific scale.
Our entire eco-system is extremely fragile and is susceptible to any change in temperature, pollution and excessive misuse. This has global implications and is responsible for the present freak weather patterns being observed all over the world! The water table is falling all over the world leading to droughts, famines and pestilence.
Australia has recently taken an initiative to set up a Marine Park roughly the size of India. Such initiatives will go a long way in restoring the badly battered and bruised eco-system!
Save marine life!

‘Be ye ever so high, still the law is above you’.

I heartily congratulate the Supreme Court for its outstanding judgment in The Bombay blast case! The Court has blended compassion with the letter of the law. In giving a reprieve to the illiterate accused, the Court held that they were mere instruments and the real master-minds are elsewhere. The Bombay blasts were the first of their kind-to strike terror in the minds and hearts of the people. Due to several reasons the trial was delayed and the final judgment was delivered exactly 20 years after the incident.
The Supreme Court has sent a strong message to all and sundry- ‘Be ye ever so high, still the law is above you’. It should serve as a reminder to everyone that irrespective of your position, you will have to face the consequences of your actions!
This judgment will go a long way in restoring the faith of the masses in the Judiciary!

world forestry day

World Forestry Day

World Forestry Day is celebrated around the world to ring a bell among the society about the importance of forests and the scores of benefits which are gained from them. The concept of celebrating a day every year as World Forestry Day originated at the 23rd General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture in 1971.

The event also venerates the contribution of the forests. Every year, 21 March is distinguished as World Forestry Day.

World Forestry Day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H364St5v0Zs
A forest just doesn’t mean trees but it’s an entire complex, a living community.

Many interdependent species of plants and animals dwell beneath the forest canopy; the forest soil is a home to large variety of invertebrates, bacteria and fungi which play an essential role in cycling nutrients in the soil and the forest.

The reckless felling of trees is creating many problems in the surroundings so the need of the hour says that everybody should ponder seriously over this issue and stop activities that are against the welfare of forests.

Everybody should actively involve themselves in prevention and creation of new forests. And situations of deforestation and over-gazing should be avoided.

World Forest Day 2013

According to rules of Forest Department, 10 trees should be planted in exchange of cutting down one tree. Though, in last two decades only 1% trees have been planted.

The survival of the rich generation of flora and fauna in the country is in danger due to exploitation of forests. Chopping down forests in hilly areas results in loosening of soil, thus the upper layer of fertile earth is eroding which is leading to uncontrolled rain and flood. And India is a country which is highly dependable on its agriculture, hence. it becomes even more important for us to protect our forests and prevent them from any ill practices.

The President of India

The Indian Constitution holds the President to be the head of state. He has plenary powers under the Constitution-summoning Parliament, appointing PM,Chief Justice,Governors,COAS,CAG ,CECand other constitutional functionaries. In the event of a crisis he can impose emergency and assume supreme authority. In the day to day functioning of the state he is aided by the PM and other constitutional functionaries.
When it becomes evident that the Government has lost the confidence of the people,he can ask the Prime Minister to prove his majority in Parliament failing which he can dissolve Parliament and direct fresh elections at the earliest. In the era of coalition politics,it is his duty to ensure that the will of the people is not subverted due to the machinations of political parties.
Let the President of India rise to the occasion!

UPA II-a report card

Certain facts:-
1) Decline in GDP-50%
2)Increase in unemployment-100%
3) Price rise-100%
4) Closure of industrial units-100%
5)Agriculture-stagnant
6)Growth in Services sector- 50%
7) Real per capita income-declined.
8)Increase in NPAs of banks-100%
9)Increase in people living below BPL-25%
10) Increase in public debt- 50%
11) Devaluation of currency-50%
12)Increase in farmers suicides-10%
13)Increase in crimes against women-100%
14)Increase in scams-100%
15)Relations with other countries-deteriorated
16) Increase in incomes of top 1%-1000%

Yet the PM& UPA chairperson are saying that the country has progressed! Subhanallah!

a serious matter

The law makers have become the law breakers! Yesterdays incident in which a MLA along with other MLAs beat up a police PSI,who was doing his duty, shows to what depths our elected representatives have sunk. 'Power corrupts.absolute power corrupts absolutely!' Acton
Our representatives have the impression that they are above the law! This impression has been created starting from the PM and his colleagues in the government. The PM has been stubbornly refusing to accept responsibility for the wrong doings of his colleagues which shows his tacit support to them and perhaps even involvement.
Almost 65% of our elected representatives are involved in some heinous offence or other. It is time to amend the RPA to disqualify and debar persons facing criminal charges failing which people should boycott the polls!
The whole nation is watching what steps the speaker of the Maharashtra assembly takes against the guilty MLAs!

actions not words

We,Indians of all hues and colors, are good at making eloquent speeches but poor when it comes to acting on them! "The world is deafened by useless words!" The Mother. On any occasion, there is along list of speakers who like to listen to the sound of their own voice. Krishna Menon holds the record for the longest speech at the UN(4 consequent days)! Our Parliament is a venue for delivering sermons and homilies. The Speaker has to continuously remind the members to be brief.
In the US Supreme Court, the lawyers are permitted 30 minutes each to conclude their arguments. In India even 30 hours are not enough! Our court judgments run into hundreds of pages which only the lawyers and judges can understand. It is a simple truth that the longer the judgment, the more the chances of acquittal in appeal!
'Double speak, triple think' has become a national trait. Hypocrisy and chicanery are the order of the day.
History shows that the most effective speakers were the ones who spoke the least!

Better than the entire world, is our Hindustan,
We are its nightingales, and it (is) our garden abode
If we are in an alien place, the heart remains in the homeland,
Know us to be only there where our heart is.
That tallest mountain, that shade-sharer of the sky,
It (is) our sentry, it (is) our watchman
In its lap frolic those thousands of rivers,
Whose vitality makes our garden the envy of Paradise.
O the flowing waters of the Ganges, do you remember that day
When our caravan first disembarked on your waterfront?
Religion does not teach us to bear ill-will among ourselves
We are of Hind, our homeland is Hindustan.
In a world in which ancient GreeceEgypt, and Rome have all vanished without trace
Our own attributes (name and sign) live on today.
Such is our existence that it cannot be erased
Even though, for centuries, the cycle of time has been our enemy.

greece

The West owes its entire civilization to ancient Greece! Socrates,Plato,Pericles,Aristotle and Archimedes were the ancient Rishis who laid the foundation of modern civilization. Democracy, reason, individual freedom, rule of law and science originated in ancient Greece.
Today Greece lies abandoned and neglected! High levels of unemployment, stagflation, recession, devaluation of currency, debt default, social unrest and massive deficits have reduced a prosperous country to a pauper. The main reason for the present predicament is profligacy-living beyond your means and a desire to imitate your affluent neighbors!
