Street theatre can be a powerful medium for shaping public opinion.Awareness about child and women trafficking,female infanticide,poverty,the homeless and global warming can be spread in the masses through street plays!
There is no shortage of public spirited individuals in society but they have no influence on decision making due to their inability to communicate with the masses.
Lokmanya Tilak used the Ganesh festival and shivaji Jayanti very effectively to rouse the patriotic spirit in the masses during the Indian freedom movement.
Street theatre can also be used to counter the ill-effects of movies and television by portraying the ground realities.
