kalidasa

In the entire anthology of world literature,if ever there was a true lover of women,it was Kalidasa. In Kalidasa's epics, like Shakuntalam, women are portrayed as Devis or Goddesses to be worshipped.
Kalidasa was an acute observer of the female moods, rhythms and passions. In his poetry, the sensual blends with the spiritual. He vividly describes the tiniest feminine movement of the fingers
to the embrace of a lover in sublime terms.
Kalidasa wrote during the hedonistic period of Tndian civilization without loosing sight of the Ancient Indian culture which had produced epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata.
To Kalidasa,a woman was endowed with the power to make a man a Hero or the devil.Kalidasa vividly describes all the nuances, guiles, charms and passions of women in his plays and poetry.Kalidasa wrote of an epoch when women were at the forefront of progress in India-arts,literature,music,sculpture and the culinary arts.During that period, the entire emphasis of Indian culture was towards synthesis.fusion and refinement. All his women characters are beautiful, strong, virtuous, refined, graceful, aesthetic, passionate and purposeful.
