Mira was born in Paris on 21st February 1888 to an Egyptian father and an Algerian mother.Her father,a succesful businessman,had migrated to France from Egypt in search of better prospects.Her mother was a disciplinarian and always encouraged her children Matteo and Mira to always put in their best.
As a child Mira was above average.She was a late starter and learnt the alphabet when she was 7.She was highly curious and always interested in what was happening around her.She was surrounded by all possible comforts but she was always grounded.She deeply loved her elder brother Matteo and always protected him from any mishap.More than academics Mira was interested in Music,Art,Tennis,Dance and Architecture.As a teenager her friends included painters,musicians and writers.She had travelled all over Europe and seen all the important monuments,museums,art galleries and libraries of her time.At the age of 19 she married the painter Morriset.A son Andre was born to them.Subsequently she left Morriset and married Paul Richard.
In 1920 she came to Pondicherry and met Sri Aurobindo,an Indian revolutionary,who was engaged in Yoga-seeking for the Divine.She immediately realized that he was the man of her dreams.She returned in 1926 and settled in Pondicherry.
Till her passing away on 17th November 1973,Mira and Sri Aurobindo worked tirelessly to realize their dream of a world based on freedom,love,truth,equality and fraternity.
