democracy in pakistan

The elections to the Parliament and assemblies in Pakistan are over and the results are awaited. Despite attempts by the Taliban and other extremist organisations to derail the polls, people have voted in large numbers. The people clearly want democracy, prosperity, law and order, peace and harmony. For the first time Kashmir was not an issue in the elections. This augurs well for Indo-Pak relations! It appears that the army also supports a return to democracy in Pakistan since it pulled out all stops to ensure peaceful elections.
The Elections are a small step in a lengthy process. Pakistan still has a long way to go on the path to normalcy. Its institutions are still weak and forces like Taliban,ISI, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Jaish-e-Muhammad are still very active. The Minorities still feel insecure in Pakistan.
Like India, these are times of transition in Pakistan. If the people and the politicians in Pakistan can rise to the occasion, nothing can stop Pakistan from attaining its rightful place in the world!
