the police in india

With the staggering crime rate in India,it is obvious that our Police are ill-equipped and ill-trained! The investigation methods used by our police are outdated and obsolete and date back to the British Raj. Most of the policemen are ignorant of IT and computers which are a necessary part of any investigation. The FIRs are still recorded by hand in the vernacular. The paperwork in any investigation is enormous and illegible which makes the task of the prosecution very difficult while arguing in court. The IPC needs drastic revision and simplification. The whole criminal delivery mechanism is cumbersome and heavily loaded in favour of the criminal. The police routinely resort to third-degree methods against innocent persons while the real criminals go scot-free! Most of the policemen are habituated to liquor and are in poor physical condition. Corruption is rampant in the force. Offences against women are still investigated by men police officers who tend to look at women with a jaundiced eye. The police these days spend their time watching IPL matches at the station.
The Jails are over-crowded and innocent persons languish behind bars for years together. Homosexuality, narcotics, alcohol, mobiles and women are provided to the prisoners at a price. There is no attempt to rehabilitate prisoners convicted of petty crimes.
All over the civilized world prevention of crime has become an imperative part of police duties but in India the police are unaware of this.
The image of the police force in India is very bad and people are hesitant to take the help of the police! Political interference is high and an honest officer is immediately transferred to a far-flung place . It is no wonder that people have started settling their own scores without going to the police!
