scientists and politics

The Guardian,London has published a story that Mr. Stephen Hawking and some other scientists will not be participating in a conference in Jerusalem. In my opinion scientists should not be a party to politics.
Science by its very nature is an unprejudiced inquiry into the nature of things while politics is a game of ruse and deceit. By not participating in the conference Mr. Hawking is behaving like a politician and only affecting his credibility in the scientific community.
The true role of scientists is to spread a scientific culture all over the world and international conferences go a long way in achieving that purpose.
I would earnestly implore Mr.Hawking and his colleagues to attend the conference in Jerusalem and if possible try to persuade their Israeli counterparts to see reason!
