Yaari hai iman mera yaar meri zindagi-nothing is sweeter than friendship

Yaari hai imaan mera /

indo-vietnam friendship

Indo-Vietnam friendship has withstood the test of time and has grown in strength and stature. However there is scope for deepening our ties. India can offer tremendous support in nation building of Vietnam. Like India Vietnam is also a predominantly agrarian society. India can offer scientific, technological and R&D to Vietnam in all spheres.
Vietnam should figure prominantly in our Look-East policy. The Vietnamese people are a brave people who defeated the US!
We should both seek synergies and help each other resolve our common issues-poverty,illiteracy,unemployment,malnutrition and disease!

europe will be destroyed-sri aurobindo

Prophetic words! What Sri Aurobindo means is that the idea of Europe-materialism,communism,socialism,nazism,capitalism,individualism and commercialism which has dominated the world for the last four millennium will undergo a revolutionary change for the better!
The Eurozone crisis is a sign of things to come. Unless Europe undergoes a deep catharsis and changes its entire value base-educational,cultural,religious,social,political and economic, the crisis will only aggravate! If the EU thinks that it will be able to regenerate its economy by fuelling wars in the Middle-East or elsewhere,it is sadly mistaken. The MNCs who decide the economic and foreign policies of EU will have to realize that unless they agree to accept greater social responsibility EU is doomed and its break-up is certain!
The West which has increasingly become isolationist and predatory has to realize that it shares a common destiny with the rest of the world and has to liberalize its labor, immigration and trade policies.

cycling-a healthy alternative

While the developed and prosperous West is gradually switching over to cycling, we in the East are in a mad frenzy to buy the latest automobile. In rural areas in Maharashtra less people are using cycles than before. This is indeed unfortunate!
Cycling is an excellent aerobic exercise which tones up the body and circulation. Further it is a cheap,
non-polluting means of transport which leads to the well-being of the entire planet.
Since it is perfectly possible now to work from home, commuting long distances can be avoided and cycles could easily become a viable means of transport.

mrs.doubtfire

A genius has passed away!Robin Williams was one of the greatest actors of the present times.Unfortunately he was before his times and people could not appreciate his versatility and talent.Creativity, spontaneity, warmth and comedy were his forte. He has left the world a better place than he found it.
Mrs. Doubtfire must surely rank as one of the greatest films ever made! The 1993 movie excels in all departments-script,direction,acting,screenplay,musical score and photography. Robin Williams is simply amazing and it is a mystery why he did not feature in more movies.
A simple story line about an estranged husband who decides to work as a house-maid to be with his wife and children whom he deeply loves. The movie has mesmerized audience all over the world and has been remade in several countries in several languages. The movie has an universal appeal and touches the hearts of the audience.
It has all the elements of a great film- healthy entertainment, comedy, spectacular stunts and versatile acting by all.
Mrs. Doubtfire proves that good homely values still have an universal appeal!

OAU-50 years

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRpeEdMmmQ0The African Union is meeting in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia to celebrate 50 years of its inception. Africa is still torn by strife, civil war, poverty, hunger, disease, unemployment and lack of democracy! It is not a coincidence that like Asia,Africa too suffers from its colonial hangover. It is only when Africa will be able to find its soul that it can be said to be free and united.
Dr. Nelson Mandela, the father of Modern S.Africa has been silently playing a monumental role in the progress and unity of the African countries.
These are times of transition for everyone! Only those countries and people will command the future who are able to seize the difficulties in their path and turn them into opportunities.
I wish the OAU success in its deliberations!

extremism in india

According to latest estimates almost 200 of the 600 districts of India are badly affected by extremist violence. These armies are well equipped with Chinese made automatic weapons and artillery stolen from the Indian Army. These men and women, mostly teenagers are highly committed to their perverse ideology and firmly believe in overthrowing the state by violent means!
The genesis of extremism lies in the faulty policies pursued by the Government since Independence. These perverse policies which have resulted only in corruption, extreme disparities in wealth and incomes, illiteracy, malnutrition, starvation, disease, social unrest and concentration of power in a few hands. If these policies are not reversed soon,it will only result in extremism spreading to other parts and consequent civil war in
the whole country.

everest expedition-60th anniversary

29th May 2013-60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hilary and Tensing Norkay's reaching atop Mt.Everest!
Everest-the highest point in the world still remains a much sought after feather in the cap for mountaineers and sports persons all over the world. At 8848 mtrs it is a formidable task to reach the top. Inclement weather, storms, lack of oxygen and rock slides are some of the many difficulties in the path. Climbing Everest requires tremendous endurance, stamina, determination and strength!

Buddha and Sri Aurobindo

Buddha said" The world is an illusion,Maya. The best way is to ignore reality and disappear into Nirvana.!"

Sri Aurobindo on the contrary says " The world is dark and ignorant precisely because there exists the possibility of perfection and divine manifestation.!"
India descended into Tamas-inaction because it blindly followed the teachings of Buddha. The best minds took the world to be Maya and withdrew into solitude and inaction. As a consequence India gradually slipped into decadence and darkness.
In the 20th century as a consequence of foreign domination, people like Ramakrishna,Vivekananda,Dayananda,Sri Aurobindo and Tilak re-invented Indian culture, particularly the Bhagwad Gita and made it into a gospel of action and works.
That revolution in thought still awaits completion!

algeria

Algeria is the largest country in Africa and the 10th largest in the world. A former French colony, it is now a prosperous Republic with a per-capita income exceeding $5000. It has a composite culture-Arabic,French and African. Its official language is Arabic. Since it is in the Sahara region, its climate varies from extreme summers to tropical. Its economy is largely dependent on the price of oil which it has in abundance.
Women play an important role in Algeria and a large part of its work-force comprises of women. Almost 70% of the lawyers are women.
The varied vegetation of Algeria includes coastal, mountainous and grassy desert-like regions which all support a wide range of wildlife. Many of the creatures comprising the Algerian wildlife live in close proximity to civilization. The most commonly seen animals include the wild boars, jackals, and gazelles, although it is not uncommon to spot fennecs(foxes), and jerboas. Algeria also has a few, leopard and cheetah populations, but these are seldom seen.
A variety of bird species makes the country an attraction for bird watchers. The forests are inhabited by boars and jackals. Barbary macaques are the sole native monkey. Snakes, monitor lizards, and numerous other reptiles can be found living among an array of rodents throughout the semi aridregions of Algeria. Many animals are now extinct, among which the Barbary lions and bears.
In the north, some of the native flora includes Macchia scrub, olive treesoakscedars and other conifers. The mountain regions contain large forests of evergreens (Aleppo pinejuniper, and evergreen oak) and some deciduous trees. Fig,eucalyptusagave, and various palm trees grow in the warmer areas. The grape vine is indigenous to the coast. In the Sahara region, some oases have palm trees. Acacias with wild olives are the predominant flora in the remainder of theSahara.
Camels are used extensively; the desert also abounds with poisonous and nonpoisonous snakes, scorpions, and numerous insects.

loss of manners

Courtesy and politeness have but disappeared from present day life and has been replaced by boorishness and hostility! This is the age of the barbarian.
People avoid meeting each other and prefer to communicate by e-mail or twitter as if they have something to conceal. Persons refuse to acknowledge your mails and communicate only when they expect some favor! Friendship is limited to facebook and google+ but does not extend to real life. Even family members have become mercenary!
If this is going to be the shape of things to come,God save us all!

middle-east crisis

Syria,Egypt,Libya,Lebanon,Turkey,Iraq,Tunisia,Jordan,Palestine and Iran are embroiled in a battle for supremacy! The Western powers have found a lucrative market for their armaments and innocent people are getting killed in thousands every day.
Unless a solution is found soon the crisis could easily spread to other countries in the region. The dictators have to realize that the world has changed and they will have to govern in accordance with popular mandate.
Unfortunately the UN is only promoting the interest of the Western powers while ignoring the ground realities. This kind of approach will only aggravate matters.
All the countries in the region have to meet in a neutral country and hammer out a mutually acceptable solution. Israel and Iran will also have to be involved in the discussions. The Western powers will have to observe restraint and avoid supplying weapons.
It is imperative that peace returns to the region soon!

shiva

The Hindu God Shiva is also known as the 'Destroyer' of the Cosmos. He along with Vishnu and Brahma comprises the trinity which governs the universe. When invoked Shiva destroys the baser instincts like lust, greed, hatred, ignorance and violence latent in the human breast! He is the ultimate Sanyasi and above all dualities.
Shiva is also known as 'Ardhanarishwara' which means half-female. He embodies both male-female principles like knowledge, power, strength, love, compassion, mercy and charity. He is the most easily appeasable of all Gods. All he asks is sincerity and surrender on part of the devotee. No statue is ever found in a Shiva Temple because he is infinite and self-effacing.He is the beloved of Durga and Kali.
The river Ganga flows through his locks and lives on Kailash. When angered Shiva can destroy the entire universe in the wink of an eye!
'It is Rudra who holds the world in the hollow of his palm. Till the debt to him is paid the law of Vishnu cannot prevail! Sri Aurobindo

ramshastri prabhune

Ramshastri Prabhune was born in Mauli village of Satara district in Maharashtra. Due to his scholarship and industry he rose to become the Chief Justice of the Maratha Empire during the reign of Madhavrao Peshwa. He was a man of the highest integrity and rectitude. Even the Peshwa had to defer to Ramshastri in matters of Law.
Ramshastri lived a very frugal life and his wife sold milk to supplement the family income. He refused to live in the official residence and continued to live in his ancestral home in Pune. He was well versed in Sanskrit,Marathi,The Vedas, the Puranas,The Bible and the Quran. He always maintained that he was the custodian of the Dharma and hence all public functionaries including the Peshwa were accountable to him.
After the untimely death of Madhavrao Peshwa, his uncle Raghunath Peshwa usurped the Prime Ministership by killing the heir Narayanrao, The matter was brought before Ramshastri who ordered the arrest of Raghobadada. Raghoba was brought before Ramshastri who held him guilty as charged and sentenced him to imprisonment for life. The sentence could not be executed for political reasons and as a consequence Ramshastri resigned as Chief Justice and left Pune.
Ramshastri and Nana Phadnavis were the two stalwarts of the Maratha Empire during is period of decline.

the police in india

With the staggering crime rate in India,it is obvious that our Police are ill-equipped and ill-trained! The investigation methods used by our police are outdated and obsolete and date back to the British Raj. Most of the policemen are ignorant of IT and computers which are a necessary part of any investigation. The FIRs are still recorded by hand in the vernacular. The paperwork in any investigation is enormous and illegible which makes the task of the prosecution very difficult while arguing in court. The IPC needs drastic revision and simplification. The whole criminal delivery mechanism is cumbersome and heavily loaded in favour of the criminal. The police routinely resort to third-degree methods against innocent persons while the real criminals go scot-free! Most of the policemen are habituated to liquor and are in poor physical condition. Corruption is rampant in the force. Offences against women are still investigated by men police officers who tend to look at women with a jaundiced eye. The police these days spend their time watching IPL matches at the station.
The Jails are over-crowded and innocent persons languish behind bars for years together. Homosexuality, narcotics, alcohol, mobiles and women are provided to the prisoners at a price. There is no attempt to rehabilitate prisoners convicted of petty crimes.
All over the civilized world prevention of crime has become an imperative part of police duties but in India the police are unaware of this.
The image of the police force in India is very bad and people are hesitant to take the help of the police! Political interference is high and an honest officer is immediately transferred to a far-flung place . It is no wonder that people have started settling their own scores without going to the police!

farmers suicides in India

The Hindu has published a story today saying that every 30 mts a farmer commits suicide in India! This is indeed a shocking state of affairs. The responsibility for this deep seated malaise lies mainly on the Planning Commission. The members of the PC are mainly academics with little knowledge of the ground realities.
In my opinion the PC has mismanaged the nation's resources right from Independence. It was set up at Nehru's instance on the lines of the Soviet model of developementhttp://www.thehindu.com/opinion/columns/sainath/farmers-suicide-rates-soar-above-the-rest/article4725101.ece?homepage=true
. It has failed miserably in meeting its stated objectives and must be scrapped. The CBI should conduct an investigation into the functioning of the PC and file cases against its members for squandering national resources, corruption, fraud, cheating and misdemeanor.
The blood of millions of starving and poor Indians lies on the hands of the PC!

guantanamo bay

Guantanamo bay is a high security detention bay located in Cuba and operated by the US military.  It is reminiscent of Auschwitz and  Siberia where humans are treated with brutality and violence because they dared to resist US oppression!
Most of the detainees are from Asia and the Middle-East. Beatings, rapes, starvation, sleep deprivation, suicides and even murders are common. The prisoners are denied the minimum privileges which every political prisoner is entitled to under the Geneva convention.
There has been universal condemnation of the Guantanamo bay but the US administration has been unmoved. The US Supreme Court has held that the prisoners are entitled to file Habeas Corpus petitions in US courts seeking release and has directed release of several detainees.
The US today is one of the most intolerant societies in the world while it sermonises other countries to protect human rights!
Shut down Guantanamo bay!

excellence

" Strive for perfection and perhaps you may achieve excellence!" Sri Aurobindo. The West has been so remarkably successful in life because it has made excellence a habit, while we have remained content with mediocrity. Even our highest rewards have been awarded to mediocre persons which has set a wrong precedent. Men like Patel,Ambedkar, Bismillah Khan,Pt.Bhimsen Joshi and many others received recognition late while persons who had political connections received them without deserving them. Even today there are hundreds of persons who are doing excellent work in their respective fields but have been denied their due because they prefer to stay away from the limelight!
Children should be taught at school and at home to do their tasks carefully and diligently. If the parents and teachers do their work conscientiously, the child automatically emulates them. In school the children should be taught about great men like Einstein, Shivaji,Rana Pratap,Akbar,Cromwell,Churchill,Laxmibai, Joan of Arc, Napoleon,Vivekananda,Shakespeare and others which will inspire them to aim high in life.

Asgar ali Engineer

Engineer, a Dawoodi Bohra, was one of the few liberal and proggessive Muslims in India. An academic by profession, he was extremely vocal and outspoken in expressing his views against mainstream Islam. he was a bitter critic of the Syedna, the spiritual head of the Bohris, for which he was assaulted by the followers of the Syedna and even his house in Bombay was ransacked. He along with Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, a Muslim theologist, spent their entire time trying to spread a progressive interpretation of Islam all over the world through their writings and speeches. They were for upliftment and education of women, communal harmony,non-violence,tolerance and brotherhood.
Engineer firmly believed that Modern Islam should abandon its exclusivist, intolerant, fanatic and violent image and join the mainstream.
His death is a great loss to progressive Islam! May his soul RIP.

the reality of panchayati raj in india

The Union Government allocates several hundreds of thousands of crores to panchayati raj institutions in India every year with the ostensible intention of decentralizing power to villages. The grim reality is that 70% of the funds allocated goes into the pockets of politicians and middle men. The schools are in a mess, there is no power.no water,no public toilets,no decent eating places and no public health facilities. All decisions are taken by a small clique without consulting the villagers. The same people manage to get elected year after year. Neither the Sarpanch nor the committee members are ever found in the office. The Governments proudly claim that all panchayats have been connected by internet but there is hardly any awareness about IT among st the people.
I tried to organise a cultural programme today to highlight the incidents of growing violence against women at my expense, but the Gram Panchayat at Bhilar refused permission at the last minute. It was to be a programme with folk songs, street play and snacks. Everyone was invited.
An extremely sorry state of affairs!

akshaya tritiya

According to Hinduism, Akshay Tritiiya was the day when Ganesha, the god of wisdom and obstacle removal, started writing the epic Mahabharata to Ved Vyas's dictation. As per Hindus, this day is ruled by god Vishnu, the preserver-god in the Hindu Trinity. It is also traditionally celebrated as the birthday of the Hindu sage Parashurama, the sixth Avatar(incarnation) of the god Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, on this day the Treta Yuga began and the river Ganges, the most sacred river of India, descended to the earth from the heaven.
It was also on this day that Goddess Annapoorna devi was born.
Kubera received his wealth and position as custodian of wealth and property along with Goddess Lakshmi on this day, by praying to Lord Shiva at Shivapuram.
It is also traditionally observed as the birthday of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of god Vishnu. The Puranicscriptures speak about how he reclaimed the land from the sea.
In Mahabharata, Yudhishtira receives the Akshaya patra, which he uses to serve food for all the needy in his Kingdom.
It is on this day that poor Sudama, the best friend of Krishna visits Him (Lord Krishna) to greet him after He became the King. With nothing to offer due to his poverty, Sudama takes with him Poha (puffed rice) and offers it to his friend and never discusses his poverty though he intends to. But on his return he finds his hut changed to a Palace.
It is also on this day that DushasanaDuryodhana's brother unveils Draupadi at the Royal Court where Krishna protects her providing the 'unending' veil...
In most recent history, Adi Shankara recited the Kanaka Dhara Stotr on this day for the sake of the poor couple at whose house he stopped for Bhiksha on the day and was offered the only available gooseberry in the house.
Goa and Konkan regions, even today, are referred to as Parushurama Kshetra. Akshaya Tritiya, the third day of the bright-half of the lunar month of Vaisakha is considered as one of the most sacred days of the year.
In Orissa on Akshay Tritiya farmers start ploughing their land and construction of chariots for Rath Yatra begins at Puri.
The day is generally observed by fasting and worship Lord Vasudeva with rice grains. A dip in the river Ganges on this day is considered to be very auspicious.
The Vedic scriptures[where?] say that knowledge gained or charity done on this day is very fruitful. It is considered to be very lucky day to start new business or venture. Many people buy gold or property on this day.
Fasts are kept on this day and pujas are performed. In charity, fan, rice, salt, ghee, sugar, vegetables, tamarind, fruit, clothes, are given. Vishnu is worshipped on this day. Tulsi water is sprinkled in the nearby are of the idol while performingaarti.
In Bengal, on the day of the Akshay Tritiiya, "HalKhata" - a ceremony to start the new audit book is performed - with the worship of Ganesha and goddess Lakshmi. Bengalis perform many rites and rituals on this day.
This day is also most auspicious day for the Jat farming community. Early morning, a male member of Jat family goes to field with shovel. All the animals and birds encountered on the way to the field indicates omen and predictions for rains and crops. Akshay Tritiiya is also an occasion for weddings, which are conducted in mass marriage ceremonies. It is considered an unboojha muhurat.
It is believed that god Kubera, the treasurer of the gods, is the richest deity. Lakshmi Tantram says that even Kubera will pray to goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and consort of Vishnu, on this day. On this day, a day-long Kubera Lakshmi Puja is performed in which an image of Lakshmi is worshipped along with Sudarsana Kubera Yantra, symbolising Kubera.
Importance of worshipping the picture of ‘Vaibhav-Lakshmi’ with Sree Vishnu, on the day of ‘Akshay Trutiya : On the day of ‘Akshay Trutiya’, a king or those who have the responsibility of taking care of the subjects, should perform ‘puja’, with gratitude and devotion, of the picture of ‘Vaibhav-Lakshmi’ with Sree Vishnu as it helps to make the subjects happy and prosperous. We are not graced by ‘Goddess Lakshmi’ as she is the divine energy (shakti) of Sree Vishnu. How can His ‘divine energy’ come here and bless us if Sree Vishnu is not invited? Therefore, before worshipping Sree Lakshmi in any of her forms, first invite Sree Vishnu and then invite Sree Lakshmi as the worshipper gets maximum benefit of Lakshmi-tattva (Principle) [3]

shiv jayanti

Today is Shiv Jayanti! It is a day to remind ourselves of Chhatrapati Shivaji and his bravery, valour and ideals.
The times today are no different from the times when Shivaji appeared on the scene. At that time also there was an autocratic and despotic government in Delhi, the honour of women was under threat, misrule was rampant, the poor and the destitute were struggling for survival and there was a lack of vision and purpose amongst all sections of society!
Shivaji under the able guidance of his mother Jijabai and Guru Samarth Ramdas set about the formidable task of building a sovereign, independent state committed to the ideals of morality, upliftment of the poor and marginalized, safety of women and law and order. From scratch he built an army of 100000 well equipped men to take on the might of the mighty Mughals. He declared himself as Emperor of Deccan and accountable only to God. He was the first men to have a truly pan-Indian vision and would have been successful in achieving it also if he had received support from the Rajputs, who favoured Aurangzeb. In that case the English could never have succeeded in getting a foothold in India and the history of India would have been different!

democracy in pakistan

The elections to the Parliament and assemblies in Pakistan are over and the results are awaited. Despite attempts by the Taliban and other extremist organisations to derail the polls, people have voted in large numbers. The people clearly want democracy, prosperity, law and order, peace and harmony. For the first time Kashmir was not an issue in the elections. This augurs well for Indo-Pak relations! It appears that the army also supports a return to democracy in Pakistan since it pulled out all stops to ensure peaceful elections.
The Elections are a small step in a lengthy process. Pakistan still has a long way to go on the path to normalcy. Its institutions are still weak and forces like Taliban,ISI, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and Jaish-e-Muhammad are still very active. The Minorities still feel insecure in Pakistan.
Like India, these are times of transition in Pakistan. If the people and the politicians in Pakistan can rise to the occasion, nothing can stop Pakistan from attaining its rightful place in the world!

small is beautiful

Our mantra for achieving excellence in our chosen field should be "small is beautiful"! Instead of trying to build large organisations we should strive to develop several small units loosely connected. There should not be any rigid hierarchy but an informal arrangement of authority to facilitate speedy decision making. The great advantage of working in a small unit is agility and flexibility. In the rapidly changing environment only those units will survive who can quickly adapt themselves to any change in situation. A large organisation is handicapped due to its size and a long chain of command. With proper use of IT decisions can be implemented within seconds provided there is unanimity of purpose!
Instead of implementing large dams our purpose will be better served by digging small ponds and reservoirs in villages which can be constructed with the help of the villagers themselves. This will not only solve our irrigation and drinking water needs but also attract birds from all over who can take care of any rodents or pests who cause damage to our crops. Similarly the power scarcity can be solved by use of renewable sources of energy like solar,wind,bio-gas and co-generation. In banking micro-finance and mahila bachat gats can meet the credit requirements of the villagers.
Let us make a beginning!

cleanse the augean stables

It has happened! India has spoken in one voice-zero tolerance to corruption. I sincerely congratulate the leadership of the UPA and the entire opposition for taking a firm stand and ensuring the resignation of the two ministers. It will go a long way in restoring the faith of the people in the strength of Indian democracy.
This is the first step. The Parliament must send a message down the line, right upto the gram panchayat-the highest standards of propriety and integrity are expected from all persons holding positions of authority.
The masses in India are waking to their dormant strength and will reward those who support their cause-food,water,shelter,employment,law and order, peace and harmony.
I am sure all political parties will take care in the selection of candidates for the ensuing elections.
Let us unitedly build a new India.

soya bean cultivation

Soya Bean is grown largely in the US,Argentina,Brazil,China and India. It is an extremely rich source of vegetable protein. It is also used as cattle feed in some countries. It is used to produce edible oils, milk, tofu, cheese and nuggets. It is easy to digest and a good alternative for vegetarians.
India, which is deficient in edible oils and has to rely on imports to meet its domestic requirements should intensify efforts to increase its per acre yield of soya bean. It is proved that soya also increases the fertility levels of the soil. It is also highly remunerative and the time needed for soya to grow to its full potential is relatively less.
