re-drawing the world map

Persons suffering from starvation in 2010

The time has now come to start thinking about food security for the 7 billion and growing population of the world.Unless timely steps are taken to ensure that sufficient stocks of food grains are available for meeting contingencies like climate change and natural and man-made disasters, there could be major social upheavals across the globe.
One way of putting food security high on the global agenda is to redraw the global map in terms of agro-zones.Rice,wheat,maize,corn,potatoes,tomatoes,onions,chillies,fruits and dairy products constitute the diet of the majority of the world's population.Instead of taking afragmentd view in terms of national requirements a broader perspective is needed.Different colours can be used to indicate the various crops, land and water availabilty, per hectare yield and the climatic conditions in different parts of the world.
