the indian crow

The crow has been a regular feature in Indian literature and folk tales. There are several stories about the practical intelligence of crows in The Panchatantra which was composed thousands of years ago.Even Kalidasa and our saint poets like Dnyaneshwar,Kabir and Tiruvallavar have praised the crow highly.Birds like parrots, myenahs and crows have a highly sensitive radar which can easily detect variations in the climate and provide timely warnings to the farmers and the wild animals in jungles.
The Tiger and other big cats depend on the crows and parrots to warn them of any impending danger.Jim Corbet, the famous British hunter and animal lover, who spent his entire life in the Kumaon region of Uttaranchal and Dr.Salim Ali,the world famous orinthologist, have minutely described the important role of birds in the preservation of the eco-system.
In many parts of India, the crow is regarded as sacred and fed with choicest delicacies on the death anniversaries of ancestors.
The mobile telephony and wi-fi pose a serious threat to crows, sparrows, myenah and butterflies who are rapidly vanishing from modern cities and towns.
