Kemal Pasha,in the face of tremendous opposition from the Caliphate and the Ottoman Empire, had succeeded in making Turkey into a modern, democratic and progressive republic.Today,Turkey, though enjoying high levels of economic growth,is becoming an Islamic hard line state ruled by a megalomaniac.
In the present subjective age, every nation is in search of its cultural identity. This process is not easy and fraught with grave dangers.
Ukraine, facing economic difficulties like most constituents of the erstwhile Soviet Union,is looking for an easy way out by aligning closely with Western Europe and against Russia with which it has closer cultural ties.Western sactions, though painful, will eventually make Russia much more stronger and united. In the short run,Ukraine may benefit in economic terms, but it will be at the cost of its sovereignty and freedom.
