Bhagwad Gita

The Gita is one of the most respected scriptures of India. It is different from all other scriptures in the sense that it does not specify any norms of conduct but includes all human activity in its scope. The Gita was narrated by Lord Krishna to his disciple Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. That period was similar to the present one, when the Dharma-the law of truth and righteous living was in danger of being wiped out and the forces of darkness threatened to engulf the whole world!Arjuna, the human disciple was confused and bewildered and refused to take up arms against his own kith and kin.Lord Krishna who was the Avtar, revealed his divinity and advised Arjuna to do his duty as a warrior to protect the Dharma.
According to the Gita,a person can attain divinity by pursuing the path of works-karma,knowledge-gyan and bhakti-devotion.The Lord says that all paths lead to me-i respond in the same spirit as the devotee approaches me!He further says that all are dear to me,but the one who offers his entire being to me is the dearest. The Gita further says that every person has to bear the consequences of his actions-the disinterested performance of duties leads to divinity while motivated, selfish or harmful actions leads to Adhogati-perdition and downfall.
The Gita also explains about The Avtaar-the Divine incarnation who appears on earth from time to time to lead man to a higher and truer living. There have been 9 Avtaars till date, the last one being Kalki, who appears at a crucial period in human history and leads the forces of light and defeats the opposing forces to re-establish Dharma on Earth!
The Gita has been a source of inspiration to some of the greatest mind in India-Ramakrishna,Vivekananda,Sri Aurobindo,Tilak and Gandhi. It has had a tremendous influence on the Indian psyche and continues to guide God-seekers all over the world!
