left movement in india

I am amazed at the ineptitude of the left parties in India- they had the whole ocean at their disposal and yet they chose to drink ditch water! If they had stuck to Leninism, they would have been the main opposition party instead of the BJP.
Right from its inception, the communist party has been taking a jaundiced view of Indian realities. Instead of actively involving themselves in the freedom struggle, they chose to take an ambivalent attitude towards it. Though persons like Dange,Ghate and Muzaffar Ahmed were arrested in the Meerut Conspiracy case, the official line was always confused. During World War II, when Nazism was threatening to overrun the world, the communists chose to oppose Indian participation, till the Soviet Union was invaded. After Independence, instead of coming into the mainstream, they stayed aloof and adopted a policy of overthrowing the state by violent means! Subsequently,in pursuit of power, they chose to make compromises and alliances with opportunistic forces! The Stalinist thinking still haunts the CPM!
Even though they had dedicated leaders like Dange,PC Joshi,EMS and Jyoti Basu, they have at times been 'fishing in troubled waters'! The undivided CPI was a force to reckon with in Maharashtra,Kerala,Bengal,Andhra Pradesh and Bihar but lost it due to shortsighted policies!
All is not lost yet! If the left parties can reinvent themselves by sticking to their core base-workers,farmers,youth,women and the poor, they can attain their rightful position in Indian politics. Mazdoor, kisan, stri aur garib ekta zindabad!
