Prime Minister of India

The speculation has begun-x,y or z! Political pundits in India have started writing lengthy articles in journals and magazines singing paeans to the next king!(possibility of a queen cannot be ruled out!). It seems to have become an industry to speculate about the likely PM. Isn't it pathetic that in a nation of 1.2 billion, there seem to be only a handful of contenders for the coveted post? The Media is talking of x,y or z as being the saviors of the nation, as if a few individuals can make a nation! It is precisely this kind of hero-worship which has enabled doddering old fools or juvenile jokers to start having pretensions of becoming Prime Minister of India!
The Constitution of India,a great document, envisions the Prime Minister to be a person who enjoys the confidence of the nation! A person of the highest integrity, vision and capability should become the Prime Minister of India. However, with a few exceptions, the past experience has shown that family background or political clout have been the deciding criteria in the selection of the PM.Illiterates or persons with a shady past have succeeded in becoming Prime Minister. Isn't it a mockery of democracy and The Constitution?
The people of India are extremely gullible and have all along been playing into the hands of charlatans and tricksters who have taken them for a royal ride! It is time to change!
Let the Constitution be amended, if necessary, so that the most competent person, irrespective of his party, can become the Prime Minister. Instead of family background being a criteria, let actions speak louder than words! There is no dearth of competent people in all parties who have put in a life-time of toil in their respective states to improve the lot of the people, but cannot be considered for PM for extraneous reasons.
If India is to take its rightful place in the world, let the best man become PM!
