Two men,almost contemporaries,Lenin and Kemal Pasha were instrumental in altering the destinies of their countries and transforming them from backward,feudal and primitive countries into modern industrialized nation states. Both were great leaders with vision and dynamism.
Kemal Pasha, a soldier,emerged on the scene when Turkey had been defeated by the Allies in WW1 and had been occupied. He led a popular rebellion which ended in the ouster of the Allied forces from Turkey and its independence.
Kemal abolished the Caliphate and established a parliamentary democracy. He introduced drastic economic reforms, reforms in the education system and embraced western culture. Within a short span, Turkey became a prosperous, modern and democratic republic.
Today Turkey is a stable and economically sound democracy with high levels of literacy,incomes and communal harmony!
