the refugee problem

One of the major problems before the international community is that of refugees. Refugees are displaced persons forced to leave their natural habitat due to war, genocide, religious persecution, political views or in the name of development. Syria,Iraq,Kenya,Senegal,Uganda,Afghanistan,Tibet,Palestine,Burma,Pakistan,China,Sri Lanka,Germany.UK,Canada,Australia and several other countries in Asia and Africa are currently facing this problem. Even India is facing social unrest because of refugees from Bangladesh. Because of constrained resources India is not in a position to give shelter to displaced persons and it leads to violent clashes with the local populace.
According to estimates nearly 50 million people all over the world are 'refugees'.The definition of refugees has been amended to include those displaced within the country in the name of development. This has become a major issue in India. The Tribals are the main victims of the present policy of the government to forcibly evict the native persons to make way for dams, industries,MNCs and other vested interests without either compensating the victims or rehabilitating them. many of these displaced persons take to crime, prostitution or join extremist organisations. In Pakistan there is a civil war underway between the Hazaras,Shias and Sunnis.
Unless the western world starts taking its social responsibilities seriously, there is little hope for the 'refugees'.
