the likely shape of things to come

Events have their own logic and the mightiest powers are helpless before them.
All over the world, people are fed up with the existing state of affairs and are looking for a different way of life.Economic difficulties, job uncertainties, family breakdowns, urban crime and increasing life-style illnesses are driving people to greener environs.
Everywhere civil liberties, food security, environmental issues and issues of the marginalised people are occupying centre-stage.
Thre is a steady shift of power from the wealthier nations of the west to the more tolerant and democratic countries of the east.Led by the Indian example, other countries in Asia are also in the process of dismantling the command-control structure and moving to a more participatory model of governance.
A global conflict is inevitable if the wealthier nations of the West refuse to accept the present reality and insist on perpetuating their dominance of the world.
Hopefully with a greater people to people contact across the globe,an amenable solution will be found in the larger interest.
