There is little doubt that China is an important player in the world today and it has enormous influence on world events.To its credit,it has been able to provide a reasonable standard of life to its citizens though at the cost of freedom and civil liberties.China's strength lies in its huge numbers,its technology and its command- control model of governance.Due to its pragmatic policies,China has been able to corner a large share of global trade.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union,China decided to assume the role of 'Opposition' to the western powers to ensure a multi-polar world.
Recent events like greater engagement in Asia,Africa and Latin America,bailing out Russia and easing of tensions with its neighbours indicates the emergence of China as a force for stability,growth and change in the world.
